This week in Politics

Following the swearing in of a new administration last week, there will likely be many political developments in the coming weeks. However, as the impeachment of Donald Trump continues, it will likely make up most of the political news we hear.

In the White House

In his first week in office, Joe Biden passed thirty executive orders, most of them being aimed at reversing Trump’s policies. It is expected that President Biden will continue to sign more executive orders this week, largely aimed at COVID-19 releif, climate change action, workers rights, and reversing more of Trump’s policies. The White House is currently communicating with senators in hope of passing a bipartisan COVID-19 relief bill.

In the House

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to deliver the articles of impeachment to the senate today. This will now grant the senate the ability to make preperations for the impeachment trials. It will likely be a quiet week in the House of Representatives, as there are no major bills to vote on.

In the Senate

If the articles of impeachment are delivered to the Senate today, we will probably learn more information about the impeachment trial. Other than that, this week the senate is expected to confirm more of President Biden’s cabinet picks.

This week appears to be less eventful than recent weeks in politics. While this may seem like a fresh breath of air, political tensions are likely to rise in the coming weeks, as congress prepares for the second impeachment of Donald Trump.
